Florida pest controller and business owner Kevin Verpaele

Kevin Verpaele

Following numerous years working in business plus also acquiring a college education, Florida’s Kevin Verpaele is a new business owner in Brevard County. He recently acquired and took control of a local pest control company serving the area — Critter Ridders Pest Control. This strategic professional move comes after numerous years working in other businesses and fields, including his first job after college working in data configuration management for Patrick Air Force Base’s Space Life Range Systems.

Verpaele is a graduate of the University of South Florida, which he attended on a full football scholarship after years of high school sports success. He began his education in 1999, bringing his newborn daughter Kaley to campus and joining his then-girlfriend Kathleen Rao who already attended the school for two years. The family grew during these college years. Verpaele married Rao as a sophomore and the couple had a second child, Karys Football, during Verpaele’s senior year. USF treated the young family quite well though, ushering them through an education while also allowing them to juggle family life. Verpaele often recalls fond stories of picking up his daughter from daycare in full football uniform gear before bringing her to the remainder of practice.

The family expanded to include six children total by 2016 as Kevin Verpaele worked in business and management and Rao was a nurse in dermatology. The new venture in pest control marks a different profession for Verpaele and his family, but one that will strive for the same success as family and football has brought throughout Verpaele’s lifetime.

Kevin Verpaele was actually born in Elmhurst, Illinois, but he grew up in Florida and graduated from Merritt Island High School in 1999 with a football scholarship to the University of South Florida, where he became a strong safety. Not only did the coach not mind, but he named Kevin Verpaele captain of the football team for his senior season, which was quite the honor.

After he graduated college, the family moved into a home in Melbourne, in Brevard County. Over the past 15 years or so, Kevin Verpaele has managed to compile a significant amount of work experience. Following college, Kevin worked on the Space Lift Range Systems at Patrick Air Force Base as a configuration manager. These days, he has acquired and currently runs Critter Ridders Pest Control in Brevard County, which offers a wide range of pest prevention and remediation services to residential and commercial properties throughout the county, all at prices anyone can afford.

The one thing Kevin Verpaele is most proud of is his family. His oldest daughter – the one he used to interrupt practice to pick up from day care – is now a sophomore at the University of Alabama, where she has a high Grade Point Average and has made the Dean’s List. His other five children are similarly successful, except for those who are too young to have accomplished anything so far.

His oldest daughter, for whom he used to break practice to pick up from daycare back when he played football on scholarship from the University of South Florida, is now a Dean’s List sophomore at the University of Alabama with a very high grade point average. Meanwhile, another daughter is a freshman at Cocoa Beach High School, where she plays varsity soccer for that school, as well as club soccer for Orlando City. His son is in middle school, where he plays lacrosse and is also a member of the school orchestra. Put simply, family and community are everything to Kevin Verpaele and that is reflected in everything he does.
